Create Your DTE Portal Account 🌐 Online
Visit the official DTE Maharashtra portal and register as a new applicant

Open your browser and go to dtemaharashtra.gov.in. On the homepage, look for the link that says "DSE CAP 2026 — New Registration" or "Apply Online for Direct Second Year Engineering." Click it to begin.

A
Click "New Registration" — do not click Login if you haven't registered yet.
B
Enter your mobile number and email address. Both must be active — OTPs will be sent to both.
C
Verify both OTPs within 5 minutes. If the OTP expires, click "Resend OTP" — don't refresh the page.
D
Set a strong password (minimum 8 characters, at least one number and one special character). Note it down — you'll need it for all future logins.
E
You will receive an Application ID on your mobile and email. Save this — it is your permanent reference number.
⚠️ Important: Use a personal mobile number that you have access to throughout the entire admission process. Do not use a friend's or parent's number that might not be available later.
2
Fill Personal & Academic Details 🌐 Online
Enter your diploma marks, category, domicile and other personal information

After logging in with your Application ID and password, you will see a multi-section form. Fill each section carefully — errors here can affect your merit rank and category eligibility.

A
Personal Details: Enter your full name exactly as it appears on your diploma certificate. Enter date of birth, gender, Aadhaar number.
B
Academic Details: Enter your diploma branch, college name, board (MSBTE or others), passing year, and your aggregate percentage up to 3 decimal places (e.g. 72.456%). This becomes your CAP merit score.
C
Category: Select your category — OPEN, OBC, SC, ST, VJ/DT, NT-B, NT-C, NT-D, SEBC (Maratha), or EWS. If you have a valid caste certificate, select accordingly. Incorrect selection = wrong cutoff eligibility.
D
Domicile: Select Maharashtra domicile if you have a domicile certificate. Non-domicile students compete only for All-India seats (15% quota).
E
Home University: Select the university under which your diploma college falls. This affects the Home University quota seats you're eligible for.

Tip: Calculate your aggregate percentage from your final marksheet before starting — use the formula: (Total marks obtained ÷ Total maximum marks) × 100. Keep it to 3 decimal places.
3
Upload Required Documents 🌐 Online ⚡ Critical
Scan and upload all documents in the correct format and size

This is the most common step where students make mistakes. All documents must be clear, legible scans — not blurry phone photos. Most uploads must be in PDF or JPG format under 500 KB.

⚠️ Common mistake: Many students upload a single combined PDF for all marksheets where individual uploads are required. Read each upload slot carefully — some ask for all semesters combined, some ask for each semester separately.
Scan tip: Use a free scanning app like Adobe Scan or CamScanner on your phone. Always scan in good lighting, keep the document flat, and choose "Document" mode — not "Photo" mode — to get a clean black-and-white output under 500 KB.
4
Pay the Registration Fee 🌐 Online
Pay via net banking, UPI, debit or credit card on the DTE portal

After uploading all documents, proceed to the payment page. The registration fee for DSE CAP 2026 is typically ₹500 for Open category and ₹300 for reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC/PH). Fee amounts may change — verify on the official DTE portal.

A
Select your payment method: UPI (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm), Net Banking, Debit Card, or Credit Card. UPI is fastest and most reliable.
B
Complete the payment. Do not close or refresh the browser while payment is processing — this can cause a "pending" transaction that takes 3–5 days to resolve.
C
After successful payment, you will see a Payment Confirmation page. Download or screenshot this — it contains your transaction ID.
D
You will also receive a confirmation SMS and email. Save both. Your application is now officially submitted.
E
Download your Application Form PDF from the portal and take a printout. You will need this at document verification later.
⚠️ If payment fails but money is deducted: Do not pay again immediately. Wait 24 hours — most failed transactions are automatically reversed. If not reversed after 48 hours, contact DTE Maharashtra helpline with your transaction ID.
5
Check the Merit List & Verify Your Rank 🌐 Online
DTE publishes a provisional and final merit list — check your rank and eligibility

After the registration window closes, DTE Maharashtra publishes the Provisional Merit List. Check your rank carefully. If there is any error in your name, marks, or category, raise a grievance within the given deadline — usually 2–3 days.

📸 Screenshot: Merit List search — enter Application ID to view your rank
A
Go to the DTE portal → Merit List section. Search by your Application ID or name.
B
Verify: your name, diploma percentage, category, home university. Even a small error in percentage changes your rank significantly.
C
If you find any error, click "Raise Grievance" and attach proof (marksheet). The DTE team will review and correct it before publishing the Final Merit List.
D
After grievance period, DTE publishes the Final Merit List. This list is used for all CAP rounds. Your rank is now locked.
Use our cutoff tool: Once you know your merit percentage from the merit list, use the cutoff finder on our homepage to see which colleges and branches you qualify for before filling your choices.
6
Fill College & Branch Choices 🌐 Online ⚡ Most Important
Rank your preferred colleges and branches — this directly determines your allotment

Choice filling is the most important step in the entire CAP process. Your choices are ranked in order of preference — Choice 1 is your top preference. DTE's algorithm allots the best available seat matching your rank and choices.

dtemaharashtra.gov.in/dse-choice-filling-2026
🏛️
Choice filling page — search colleges, add them to your list and drag to reorder by preference
📸 Screenshot: Choice Filling — add colleges and arrange in order of preference

Here are the golden rules for smart choice filling:

1
Put your dream college first, regardless of cutoff. The algorithm gives you the highest-preference seat your rank qualifies for. If you put a "safe" college first, you might miss a better seat you actually qualify for.
2
Add as many choices as possible — aim for 30–50. More choices = more chances. Students with fewer than 10 choices often get nothing in Round 1 and have to wait for Round 2.
3
Mix aspirational and safe choices. Top choices = your dream colleges. Middle choices = colleges you'd be happy at. Bottom choices = colleges you'd accept over no seat at all.
4
Consider government/aided colleges over unaided ones at equal preference. Fees are 4–5× lower. If you're fine with both, rank the govt college higher.
5
Save your choices before the deadline. The portal times out after inactivity. Click "Save" every time you make changes — do not rely on auto-save alone.
6
You can edit choices until the deadline. Keep refining your list. Finalize and lock it only when you're fully sure — you cannot change after locking.

🔒

⚠️ Do NOT lock choices in a hurry. Once locked, your choice order cannot be changed. Take your time, discuss with family, use our cutoff tool to check eligibility — then lock.
7
Check Allotment & Accept Your Seat 🌐 Online
DTE publishes round-wise allotment results — accept, freeze or float your seat

After choice filling, DTE runs the allotment algorithm and publishes results for each CAP round (Round 1, Round 2, Round 3). When you get an allotment, you have three options:

🟢
Accept & Freeze: You're happy with this seat. Pay the token fee online (usually ₹3,000–₹10,000) and freeze the seat. You will NOT participate in further rounds.
🟡
Accept & Float (Upgrade): You accept this seat as a backup but want to try for a better choice in the next round. Your current seat is reserved but you remain in the pool for Round 2/3.
🔴
Reject: You don't want this seat. You exit this round and try in the next one — but you lose any opportunity from this round permanently.

🎯
Allotment result page — shows your allotted college, branch and the three options: Accept & Freeze, Accept & Float, or Reject
📸 Screenshot: Round 1 Allotment — with Accept/Float/Reject options
Strategy tip: If you get a decent seat in Round 1, choose "Accept & Float" — you keep the seat but still try for something better in Round 2. Only "Freeze" if you're 100% satisfied with the allotment.
⚠️ Pay the token fee on time. After accepting (freeze or float), you must pay the token seat acceptance fee within the given deadline — typically 48 hours. Missing the payment means your allotment is cancelled.
8
Report to College & Complete Admission 🏛️ In Person
Visit your allotted college physically with all original documents

After the final CAP round and freezing your seat, you must physically report to your allotted college within the reporting deadline specified in the allotment letter. Missing this deadline means you forfeit your seat permanently.

A
Download your Allotment Letter from the DTE portal. Print it — this is your admission authorization document.
B
Carry all original documents + self-attested photocopies (minimum 3 sets each): marksheets, certificate, Aadhaar, domicile, caste certificate (if applicable), income certificate (if applicable), photos.
C
The college will verify all your documents against the DTE portal data. If any document is missing or doesn't match, admission may be delayed or cancelled.
D
Pay the first year tuition fee to the college (the token fee you paid earlier is adjusted). Get a fee receipt.
E
Collect your Admission Confirmation Letter from the college. Keep it safely — you'll need it for hostel, scholarship applications and other purposes.
Go early in the reporting window. Colleges process documents on a first-come basis. Going on the last day often means long queues and stressful waits. Aim for the first 2 days of the reporting window.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about DSE CAP 2026 registration process.

What is the registration fee for DSE CAP 2026 and how do I pay it? +
The registration fee is typically ₹500 for Open/General category students and ₹300 for reserved category students (SC, ST, OBC, PH). The exact amount is notified in the official DTE Maharashtra brochure each year — always verify before paying. Payment is made online through the DTE portal using UPI, net banking, debit card or credit card. No offline/cash payment is accepted for registration.
Can I edit my application after submitting and paying the fee? +
Some fields can be edited during an "Edit Window" that DTE opens after initial registration — usually 2–3 days. During this window you can correct minor details like name spelling, date of birth, or re-upload documents. However, core academic details like your diploma percentage may have restrictions. After the Edit Window closes and the Provisional Merit List is published, you can only raise a formal grievance — not edit directly.
How many choices should I fill in the choice form? +
You should fill as many choices as possible — ideally 30 to 50 or more. The DTE portal typically allows up to 200 choices. More choices improve your probability of getting a seat in Round 1. Students who fill only 5–10 choices often end up with no allotment in Round 1 and have to depend on Round 2 or 3, by which time fewer seats remain. There is no penalty for adding many choices — the system just picks the best one your rank qualifies for.
What happens if I miss the reporting deadline after getting a seat? +
If you miss the college reporting deadline after your seat is allotted and frozen, your seat is automatically cancelled and reassigned to the next eligible candidate. You cannot reclaim it. However, if the institute-level admission window is still open (after all 3 CAP rounds), you may still approach colleges directly for vacant seats — but these are typically leftover seats and selection is at the college's discretion. Always report within the deadline.
My payment failed but money was deducted. What should I do? +
Do not attempt a second payment immediately. Wait 24–48 hours — in most cases, the payment gateway automatically reverses failed transactions and refunds the amount to your bank account or wallet. If the money is not refunded after 48 hours, contact the DTE Maharashtra helpline with your Application ID and bank transaction reference number. You can also raise a complaint through your bank's customer care for a chargeback if DTE does not respond within a week.
Can a student from outside Maharashtra apply for DSE? +
Yes, students from outside Maharashtra can apply for DSE. They compete for the All-India quota, which is 15% of seats in each college. However, they are not eligible for Home University quota seats or state government reserved category seats. Their merit list rank is the same as Maharashtra students (based on diploma percentage), but they only compete for All-India seats. Domicile (state residency) certificate of Maharashtra is required for the 85% state seats.
